Cricket legend Kapil Dev on Friday advocated the need for more cricketing activities in the country, saying it would produce better players and help the sport to grow.

"There should be more cricket. The more cricketing activities we have, better players will be produced", Dev told reporters on the sidelines of inauguration of the Assam Cricket Academy.

Asked on the Indian Cricket League, Kapil, who is also the chairman of National Cricket ImageAcademy said, "we appreciate whoever gives scope to the players to perform. There are many players sitting idle now. They will get an opportunity to play."

Inaugurating the Academy at the Nehru Stadium, he said he was happy that BCCI provided such playground facilities to children who want to play cricket.

"In such academies children learn to play the game properly. All small cities should have such facilities so that India can again win the World Cup", the 1983 World Cup winning captain said.

"Children, don't waste the facilities. Learn the game and may be tomorrow you will play for India in the World Cup and we will clap for you", Kapil enthused the youth and said that his services would be there all the time.

"When I started playing in the 80's, players came only from big cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and not from small towns. But we showed to big cities that we, too, can play cricket," said the former all-rounder from Haryana.

"(Mahendra Singh) Dhoni, (Irfan) Pathan, Harbhajan (Singh) have all come from small towns and I feel happy to see their enthusiasm", Kapil said.
